Members of the association An Ocean of Life often travel throughout France as well as other places in the world, such as Japan, Mauritius, Madagascar, Russia, Morocco, Algeria, Reunion Island and the West Indies.
In each of these countries, the members of the association meet with elementary school children to teach them about the beauty and fragility of our marine world.
Our interventions are part of an awareness program developed by schools. We work closely with the teachers who will educate the children prior to our interventions.
These awareness sessions are organized around knowledge of the marine environment, the animals that live there and their place in the food chain.
We show several short films from the web series « An Ocean of Life ». Each episode is interspersed with exchanges with the children so that they can express themselves freely.
At the end of the session, the children can draw a picture of their own vision of the state of the oceans as they would like to find it when they grow up. The drawings are very surprising, imaginative, positive and very realistic. The action does not stop after our visit, this is just one of the steps of the educational program. The teacher can continue the project by organizing a trash clean-up around the school or through collaborative scientific/educational activities. Link to our photo gallery.
Children have no preconceived ideas and are extremely sensitive to the discourse of environmental preservation.
They are our best ambassadors, especially to the adults in their family, to perpetuate virtuous behavior on preserving the seas and oceans.
We want to create a sharing environment between schools in the form of an open and secure network on the Internet. We imagine that schools can share their experiences concerning different educational programs, drawings, songs about the sea, trash clean-up activities, recycled objects made with the collected trash, and the particularities of their marine environment.
They can even go further by presenting characteristics of their specific lifestyles, food, hobbies and games.
